Kevan Jones MP has called for more support for “hero” kinship carers, speaking in a Westminster Hall debate on 6 March.

Members from across the House of Commons joined the debate on the national kinship care strategy, which was secured by Labour MP Alistair Strathern.

In his speech, Kevan welcomed the national kinship care strategy, which was published last year, but advocated for a more local approach. Kevan called for greater clarity on the legal status of kinship carers, integrating them into the benefits system so that benefits are paid automatically. He also called for a national system for respite care.
