Kevan Jones MP has called for more support for the rail manufacturing industry nationally and in the North East, speaking in a Westminster Hall debate on 23 April.

Kevan highlighted the situation at Hitachi Rail in Newton Aycliffe, were 700 skilled jobs are at risk due to delays in Government procurement. The Hitachi train factory faces a two-year gap in work. Despite warning the Government of this two years ago and presenting a proposal to mitigate this gap, the Department for Transport has failed to support the proposal.

The debate on the future of the rail manufacturing was secured by Easington MP, Grahame Morris.
