Kevan Jones, Member of Parliament for North Durham, attended the official opening of the new Community Shop at the Village Hall, Quaking Houses on Sunday 27 May.
The opening was carried out by Mrs. Doris Armstrong, 88, who is currently the longest living resident of the village.
Mr. Jones said, “I would like to congratulate Carole Hampson, and all those involved in making this project happen. The shop, run by local people for local people, will be an excellent addition to the village.
“There is a real sense of community spirit in Quaking Houses, which has been used to great effect, and residents can be rightly proud of their achievement.”
