Statement from The Rt Hon Kevan Jones MP regarding the Letwin Amendment:
The Letwin Amendment which is being considered today by Parliament is as follows:
Amendment (a)
Line 3, leave out from “deal,” to end and add “this House has considered the matter but withholds approval unless and until implementing legislation is passed.”
This amendment would withhold approval of the deal, until the legislation to enact it was safely passed – a move that would automatically trigger the “Benn Act” and force the prime minister to request a further postponement of Brexit until 31 January.
I would like to make constituents aware that I will be voting in favour of this amendment. This is to ensure we cannot crash out with no-deal if should a deal pass and gives the Opposition time to ensure we can offer proper parliamentary scrutiny.
Best wishes,
Kevan
