Kevan Jones, Member of Parliament for North Durham, attended South Stanley Infant and Nursery School students on the last day of term to congratulate Class 6 on winning the regional premier League Primary Stars Poetry Award.

Kevan presented the youngsters with their own copy of a new poetry book, which contains their masterpiece ‘Bounce Back’.  The class wrote the poem together, which really impressed the judges and were inspired by the competition’s theme, Resilience.

Kevan Jones MP said :

“I was delighted to meet the children, and really impressed by their poem.  Resilience is so important for people at all ages, and I’m sure that reading this will encourage people to ‘never give up’.”

Mrs Kemp, Head teacher at South Stanley Infant & Nursery School said;

“We are extremely proud of the Class 6 children.  Winning this award is a fantastic achievement, and the literacy and teamwork skills which the pupils have learnt will be invaluable as they move on to Junior School.”

The text of the children’s poem is :

Bounce Back

Believe in yourself

Once I conquered my fear

Understand the power of your friends

Never give up

Courage appears when you never give up

Effort is good for our body and brain

Be determined

Always bounce back if you don’t succeed

Can’t do it…YET?

Keep on BOUNCING BACK!
