Kevan wrote yesterday to the Education Secretary to outline his concerns regarding the phased reopening of schools.

Kevan stated that:

“The Government’s current strategy places an arbitrary date on the reopening of schools, places the greatest pressure on the reopening of primary schools despite the greater difficulties in assuring social distancing in this environment, and gives no further consideration to the protection of staff and their families. An alternative measure would be to enable schools to develop local strategies in conjunction with local authorities, parents and local Directors of Public Health, to meet certain conditions prior to opening for pupils.”
