Last week, as Chair of the APPG for Shipbuilding and Ship Repair, I launched our report into the National Shipbuilding Strategy. The APPG’s primary concern remains the £1bn contract for Fleet Solid Support Ships which could go overseas and threaten our already fragile shipyards and supply chains.

The appointment of the new Defence Secretary presents the Government with the opportunity to change course and offer shipyards the stability and support necessary to maintain the UK’s technological advantage in the field.

I will press the Government to reconsider its position and continue to campaign for the new Fleet Solid Support Ships to be designed and built in UK shipyards.
