Kevan Jones, Member of Parliament for North Durham, has welcomed the announcement that the Gateway Wheelers will receive nearly £50,000 as part of this year’s People’s Millions Initiative.

The Chester-le-Street-based organisation secured the funding after taking one of the runner-up spots in this year’s television vote for a share in the Big Lottery Funding. The funding will be used for the group’s Freewheelers Project which will see them provide cycling sessions for people who are physically disabled through brain injury or accidents.

Kevan said, “I was very pleased to hear the news that the Gateway Wheelers had been successful in their bid for funding. They did remarkably well in securing such support for their project, which could be of huge benefit to people who have suffered brain injury, and I know they will do great work supporting people in my constituency and beyond.”
