Kevan Jones, Member of Parliament for North Durham, has raised serious concerns about a claims handling organisation which is apparently offering to help ex-miners claim compensation that could still be owed to them.
JusticeForMiners.org.uk is encouraging ex-miners to contact them if they think their original claims for compensation had been under-settled by their solicitors.
Mr. Jones said, “It is important that people realise this is a claims handling company and not any campaign group for ex-miners or a firm of solicitors, and I would strongly advise ex-miners to seek professional advice.
“My colleague John Mann, the M.P. for Bassetlaw has raised similar concerns about a company called the Miners Action Group, which seeks to benefit from miners’ compensation claims.
“If ex-miners or their families believe that their claim has been under-settled, they should seek legal advice from a reputable solicitor, or can contact their local MP who will be able to point them in the right direction. There is no need to involve claims handlers.”
On the company’s website, www.justiceforminers.org.uk, they claim to be regulated by the Ministry of Justice. However, a search for them on the government’s Claims Management Regulation website, www.claimsregulation.gov.uk, shows that their Authorisation Number belongs to an organisation called Oracle Associates, whose authorisation has been surrendered, meaning they are not authorised to provide regulated services.
