Kevan Jones, Member of Parliament for North Durham today questioned the Chancellor of the Exchequer Rishi Sunak MP on the funding support provided to local authorities, such as Durham County Council.

Kevan said:

“At the beginning of this crisis, the Chancellor said that the Government would do whatever it takes.

“Local Government Finance is in crisis but we did not have one single mention of it in his statement today.

“Durham County Council for example have spent £62m on its covid response, it has had £33.2m from the Government, leaving £28.8m for the taxpayer locally to pick up.

“Can I ask the Chancellor when he is going to bring forward a comprehensive settlement for Local Government, which is being called for by all parties within local Government, because without it, services will be lost, and jobs will also be cut.”
