Kevan Jones, Member of Parliament for North Durham, congratulates students at the Hermitage School, who are amongst those recognised in this year’s Giving Nation Social Action Awards.

Giving Nation is an initiative which is funded by the Cabinet Office and part of the Citizenship Foundation, and seeks to promote and support volunteering and social enterprise amongst young people in secondary schools.

Mr Jones said: “I offer my warm congratulations to the students of the Hermitage School who have excelled themselves with their work with Giving Nation.

“I understand that around 550 secondary schools have taken part this year, and it is a remarkable achievement that the Hermitage has been picked out as one of the outstanding schools. It is very pleasing to see a school in my constituency recognised for the work it does for charity and the wider community.”

Students from the Hermitage, as well as other award winners, will be attending the Giving Nation Social Action Awards Ceremony at HM Treasury on 19 October at 3.45pm. At the ceremony, the overall winning school will be announced, with their prize being a week in The Gambia working with international development charity, Concern International.
